What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is minimally invasive dermal filler that is designed to help your body produce more collagen. It works by introducing poly-L-lactic acid into your skin where you have wrinkles and lines. The new collagen provides lift and encourages your body to produce two other key proteins — hyaluronic acid for hydration and elastin to help the skin keep its shape.
How Does Sculptra® Work?
When Sculptra® is injected into the skin, it triggers the body’s natural healing process that involves the development of new collagen fibers. Over time the poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed by the body, leaving behind the new collagen. The process by which Sculptra® produces new collagen offers men and women a gradual softening of lines and wrinkles.
What Can Be Treated with Sculptra®?
Sculptra® helps with mild to moderate wrinkles on the face, and it may also be used to rejuvenate the neck and hands. The most common types of wrinkles that are treated with Sculptra® are:
- Wrinkles on the chin
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines
- Thin skin, wrinkles and folds on the hands
- Wrinkles and mild sagging on the neck
After Your Sculptra® Treatment
We recommend a series of three injections over three to four months to maximize collagen levels in your skin. The results are gradual and may last up to two years, depending on how quickly your body breaks down the collagen. We recommend that you be evaluated about 18 months after your first series of Sculptra® injections to schedule maintenance treatments. These treatments are typically less involved than the first injections.
Secondary Benefits of Sculptra® Treatments
New collagen leads to more hyaluronic acid and elastin in the skin. The changes you may notice that are linked to hyaluronic acid are dewy complexion and skin volume. Elastin helps your skin stretch and still maintain shape. You may notice that your skin develops fewer wrinkles or that the wrinkles are not as severe compared to before your Sculptra® injections.
